FC AFC GENERAL'S CALYPSO BELLE "BELLE"
AT 13 YEARS OF AGE
THE DOG THAT STARTED IT ALL FOR US!

Welcome to our site for Muddywater Retrievers!  My husband Tom and I came to Missouri in 1992 from the U.S. Virgin Islands.  Originally we were from Florida. Our background is in breeding, raising and showing Quarter Horses.  One day while riding my horse at a State Conservation Area, I came upon a Sanctioned Retriever Field Trial (fun trial) in progress.  I had never heard of or had seen anything like that, so I sat on my horse and watched with amazement at what these dogs were capable of doing.  Returning home, I mentioned to Tom what I had seen and asked him to come with me the next day to watch these dogs.  We were so impressed that several weeks later, we bought our first Labrador Retriever puppy from Glenn McElroy out of FC AFC General's Jubilashus X Chena River Sporting Colors QAA.  We named our puppy General's Calypso Belle "Belle", who later became an FC AFC.  "Belle" was a natural and we were hooked!  A few weeks later, I sold my horse and have been in the Retriever "game" since.

HELL BROKE LOOSE MH  "ROCKY" AT AGE 10
HUNT TEST DOG EXTRAORDINARY!!!

When Belle went off for her formal training to Glenn McElroy who was training at that time with Blackwater Retrievers, our home seemed so empty without her.  That's when we bought Rocky.  Rocky didn't have an impressive pedigree, but despite that and all of the "flack" that we got from all of our  new "dog friends" for buying him, Rocky attained at JH title @ age 1, SH title @ age 2, MH title @ age 3 and qualified for the Master National that year.  In 2000, he was Kansas City Retriever Club's  Top Open and Amateur dog.  Had I been more knowledgeable at that time, Rocky could have easily become QAA and probably could have attained an FC and/or AFC title.  Of course, I have Bobby George to thank for all of the help that he gave Rocky and me back in those days. Rocky had a lot of heart for the game and was very serious, focused and had no knowledge of the meaning of moderation.  Those that watched him in training and at Hunt Tests know what I mean! Rocky was very talented and didn't need me for anything except to stand at the line with him and say his name on marks and show him the initial line for the blinds.   He was also one of the most awesome dogs to hunt with whether it was upland or waterfowl.

We are saddened to say that our Rocky died on May 24th, 2007.  We both miss him dearly. Tom, especially was affected by Rocky's death and has written a beautiful story about our lives with him.  It can be viewed on the "Rocky's Tribute" page.  Wish they could live longer.......
